Lisa Joffe has been printmaking here at Eastgate Studio for over a year and her solo exhibition demonstrates the power of her work.
Printmaking is relatively new to Lisa so this exhibition demonstrates the continuity of her practice from oil paintings and drawings in charcoal and pastel to her planographic and open screenprints.
Similarly to Egon Schiele and Augusts Rodin, Lisa uses the continuous drawing technique in her fluid figurative sketches. As her vision is now impaired, Lisa draws from her kinaesthetic memory and previous experience when drawing. Her style uses quick marks and sharp lines creating movement and energy.
Lisa studied fine art at Central St Martin’s University of the Arts, London, and is best known for her large-scale, abstract landscapes.
Originally from Sussex, Lisa now lives in Beverley and has been producing the open screen-prints and screen-printed backgrounds to her drawings here at Eastgate Studio. For Lisa, her artistic creativity is “a bit like a performance.” There’s a “physical release of using the materials”. She’s “fascinated” by the process of making.
We’re honoured that Lisa chooses to create her monoprints here at Eastgate Studio.
Lisa Joffe exhibition runs until 5th August 2023
