The Ropewalk Printmakers Exhibition

“Cottage in the Mountains” mono print by Carol Emsley

This Exhibition of original prints by printmakers from the Humber region draw on a wide range of printmaking techniques. Each demonstrates an inspired interpretation of the exhibition theme of  “Light and Dark”.

The printmakers are all members of the Ropewalk Print Workshop (established in 2000) and come together to advance their printmaking skills; some have been at the print workshop since we opened.

There are 26 printmakers showing work in this exhibition.  Their styles, narratives, personalities and interests “come to life” in these amazing images, skilfully rendered using a range of techniques, but all inked and printed one print at a time.  The ink on one print, Paul Butler’s church interior, “Lady in South Transept“, has only just dried in time for the exhibition. A mezzotint that has taken months to create and we are so pleased to see it here with all the others on display.

As a result of their close working generally, the Ropewalk Printmakers enjoy participating on a themed collaboration every year, and this year “Light and Dark” has stimulated this exciting exhibition. These printmaking processes, from those familiar to Rembrandt, right up to one digital print generated in a computer and all those printmaking processes in between are included.
